My Story

I have been organizing stuff my whole life. I mean, I played with my Barbies but it was nothing compared to the little high I got from putting those little shoes into their appropriate slots in those cases! My love for organizing carried over into every part of my life. When high drama hit, high levels of organization brought me comfort. In Cubicle-land, I mastered the whole Microsoft Office Suite and I died and went to heaven when I found Google Calendar. Fonts and color-coding were just like those little Barbie shoes and I knew I was hooked. With these tools in my arsenal, I knew I could conquer the universe…but the universe had other plans.

When my mom fell ill and I took over her care, I knew I couldn’t continue my life in Cubicle-land anymore. So, I stayed home with her and my youngest daughter and explored my creative side with a stint as an Etsy shop owner and blogging about my adventures as a competitive cupcake baker on my site Susie’s Homemade. I was able to balance everything with my usual organizational armory but my life had turned into service.

I took my energy and reinvention of service a step further into volunteering in my daughter’s school community. It was an honor to serve while I used those organizational skills of mine to coordinate volunteers and participants in both the PTO and Girl Scout activities. It was here that I really came to appreciate what a difference I can make as part of a team and how my acumen for all things organizational were meant for something bigger than just putting Barbie shoes in a row.
